INRAAI14X3 OBJECTIVES After the course the students - Can calculate cross section properties of open steel cross sections - Can design unrestrained beams - Can design columns under bending and axial force. - Understand the palte buckling pehnomen and can calculate bending and compression resistance of cross section class 4 cross sections. - Can desing simple beam under torsion. - Have a basic understanding of the effect of the second order effects and imperfections on structures. - Can design simple welded and bolted connections. - Have basics knowledge and skills to design simple beam to column and column to foundation joints. CONTENT Unrestrained beams (lateral buckling of beams), local buckling of thin walled elements, torsion, beam-columns, second order effects, global imperfections, design of welds, design of bolted connection, component method for designing joints.
